Colombo: The Secretary-General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, announced that Parliament will convene from December 3rd to 6th. This decision was made during a party leaders meeting chaired by Hon. Speaker Dr. Asoka Ranwala on the 25th.
According to News.LK, the parliamentary session will begin on December 3rd with a debate on the Government Policy statement presented by the Hon. President. The debate is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will continue on December 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., culminating in a division on the Motion at 5:00 p.m.
On December 5th and 6th, Parliament will focus on the Resolution on the Vote on Account concerning the first four months of 2025. These debates will also be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The meeting also covered topics including the allocation of debate time between the Government and the Opposition, the composition of Government and Opposition representatives in committees, the establishment of the Committee of Selection, and the submi
ssion of relevant nominations. Discussions also included the formation of the Committee on Parliamentary Business, other committees, the functioning of Sectoral Oversight Committees, and a request to establish a Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus within the Tenth Parliament.
Participants in the meeting included Hon. Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, Hon. Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekaraa, Hon. Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Chief Government Whip and Minister (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa, Hon. Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, and other party leaders.
