Colombo: The newly appointed Defence Attach© of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, Senior Colonel Fu Xiao, met with Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his Colombo office today.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the meeting involved discussions on bilateral defence cooperation and mutual interests. The Deputy Minister acknowledged China’s longstanding support in military training and professional development for Sri Lanka’s armed forces. He emphasized Sri Lanka’s strategic focus on enhancing Maritime Domain Awareness and reaffirmed its commitment to a balanced, non-aligned foreign policy.
Both parties discussed future collaboration in areas such as maritime security to combat drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and human trafficking. They also explored technology integration, training and simulation programs, and disaster management as key areas of cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Defence Attach© and the Naval Attach© of the Chinese Embassy.
