Colombo: General Kevin B. Schneider, Commander of the United States Pacific Air Forces, is currently on a three-day official visit to Sri Lanka. On 22 June 2026, he met with Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the Deputy Minister of Defence, at his office in Colombo.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister expressed his pleasure at the visit, emphasizing the importance of high-level engagements in reinforcing the longstanding relations between Sri Lanka and the United States. The discussions focused on fostering closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister acknowledged the comprehensive humanitarian assistance provided by the United States. This support included humanitarian aid, financial assistance, airlift operations, and logistical coordination, significantly aiding Sri Lanka’s relief and recovery efforts following the recent ‘Ditwah’ natural disaster.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the United States Gover
nment for its continued support in enhancing Sri Lanka’s national security framework. He specifically recognized the assistance in improving Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) capabilities.
The donation of ten TH-57 Sea Ranger Helicopters by the United States was also highlighted. The Deputy Minister noted that this contribution would strengthen Sri Lanka’s operational capabilities and support defence and humanitarian efforts.
The discussions also included exchanging views on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation. Both parties explored opportunities for future collaboration in the space domain, focusing on emerging technological and strategic areas of mutual interest.
