Chattogram: A Chattogram court has ordered the detention of notorious criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, along with three of his associates, in connection with three separate cases filed at Fatikchhari Police Station. The order was issued by Judge Saima Afrin Hima of the Chattogram Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-1 after the police presented the suspects in court.

According to United News of Bangladesh, assistant public prosecutor Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury confirmed that David Emon and his associates were formally arrested in relation to these cases. Emon faces charges in two separate arms-related cases, with one filed in January and another on the day of the court hearing. The third case pertains to a murder charge. Notably, no legal representation was arranged for Emon during the proceedings.

Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury noted that, so far, David Emon has not been implicated in any cases under the jurisdiction of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP). Meanwhile, Chattogram’s Superintendent of Police, Masud Alam, revealed that an Indian Aadhaar card was discovered on Emon at the time of his arrest. Alam disclosed that Emon had been planning an escape to India, allegedly orchestrated by the criminal Sajjad Ali, to evade capture by local law enforcement.

During a press conference, Masud Alam stated that Emon intended to flee after becoming aware of intensified police efforts to apprehend him. He was reportedly set to cross the border early Wednesday morning but was intercepted by law enforcement in the Jhumjhumpur area of Jashore before he could execute his plan.

Furthermore, police have requested a 10-day remand for Emon in connection with the arms seizure tied to his arrest. Emon was captured during a collaborative operation in Jashore, indicating the seriousness with which authorities are treating his criminal activities.
