Brussels: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels celebrated the Day of Vesak 2025 at the Official Residence on 17 May 2025 with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Belgium and Luxembourg.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event featured Most Venerable Kurunagala Ananda Gosha Thero from ‘Mahamevna’ Buddhist Monastery in the Netherlands and Venerable Wisuddhi Chotipratoom Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Thai Dhammarama Temple in Belgium. They conducted the Vesak religious programme, which included Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Deshana, a brief meditation session, and blessings through Sethpirith chanting, followed by ‘Gilanpasa’ Dhana. The monks emphasized the significance of practicing Buddha’s teachings on compassion, loving kindness, peace, non-discrimination, and devotion for humanity, especially in light of current global challenges.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Belgium Chandana Weerasena extended his warm greetings to Buddhist devotees and highlighted how Buddha’s teachings could offer
solutions to contemporary challenges worldwide.
The staff of the Embassy sang Buddhist devotional songs (Bakthi Gee) for the 5th consecutive year. The Sri Lankan Community too sang the ‘Bakthi Gee’ making the event colourful. The Embassy and the Official Residence premises were decorated with Buddhist flags, Vesak lanterns and illuminated with colourful lights.
