Colombo: The Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), co-chaired the Quarter Based Integrated Progress Review Meeting 2025 for the Second Quarter of the Ministry of Defence yesterday at the Ministry auditorium, together with Mr. S.S. Mudalige, Director General of the Department of Project Management and Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance.
According to Ministry of Defence, the Department of Project Management and Monitoring under the purview of the Ministry of Finance is responsible for planning and economic development, which is mandatory for monitoring, evaluating, and facilitating all development initiatives of the public sector. It also advocates for implementing agencies to ensure the delivery of intended development results on time. This mandate has been further intensified with the introduction of the ‘Public Financial Management Act, No.44 of 2024.
The session served as an important platform to review and monitor the progress of ongoing projects implemented under the Ministry of Defence, ensuring that activities remain aligned with national priorities and strategic objectives.
The meeting was attended by the Chiefs of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force, along with senior officials of the Defence Ministry and the Treasury Departments and a representative official from the Presidential Secretariat. They engaged in constructive discussions on evaluating performance, identifying challenges, and streamlining implementation mechanisms for greater efficiency.
By fostering close coordination between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Finance, the review process strengthens transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of national projects, reflecting the Government’s commitment to sustainable development and national security enhancement.
