Deputy Minister Emphasizes Armed Forces Support and Accountability

Colombo: The eighth session meeting of the High Level Committee for Foreign Relief Aid (Supplies) Coordination (HL-FRAC) was held at the office of the Deputy Minister of Defence, chaired by Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd). The meeting focused on strengthening coordination, transparency, and efficiency in the management of foreign relief assistance.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the meeting emphasized disaster preparedness and equitable distribution of relief supplies, highlighting the progress of a centralized disaster-related data entry system. This system aims to ensure accurate information flow and effective coordination of foreign relief supplies from 22 countries and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The Deputy Minister applauded the committee’s active involvement and acknowledged the armed forces’ crucial role. Their manpower and engineering assistance, especially in road and public infrastructure restoration, are vital for maintaining access for relief distribution to affected com
munities.

The committee examined audit activities to ensure transparency and the proper utilization of donated supplies. Discussions focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination for data collection and improving administrative and infrastructure capacity at the National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC) warehouse, including road restoration. Updates to the central data integration mechanism and progress in training district and divisional secretariat officials on system data entry were also discussed.

Committee members, senior state officials, and senior representatives of the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and NDRSC attended the meeting.
