Deputy Minister of Defence Addresses Senior Tri Forces Officers at SFHQ Jaffna and SFHQ Wanni

Jaffna: The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), conducted a series of field visits in the Jaffna and Wanni regions from May 25 to 27, focusing on assessing the security situation, operational commitments, and reinforcing national defence objectives. During the visit, he addressed senior tri forces personnel at both the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) and the Security Forces Headquarters – Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni).

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, during his address, the Deputy Minister strongly emphasized that maintaining security, law and order remains the foundational bedrock of long-term regional stability and community well-being. He underscored that the tri forces must continue to work in close coordination with civil law enforcement authorities to uphold the rule of law. By maintaining a safe, secure, and lawful environment, the military ensures a proactive defence posture that effectively deters criminal activities and fosters enduring public trust in the security apparatus.

Moreover, the Deputy Minister expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation on behalf of HE the President, to all ranks of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He commended their unwavering commitment and selflessness, particularly noting their tireless dedication during challenging periods of natural disasters and national crises, where their timely interventions have consistently safeguarded civilian lives and property.

The Deputy Minister noted that, through clear corruption-free policies, and streamlined professional progress criteria, the government aims to transform the armed forces into professional, multi-skilled organizations. This effort also focuses on nurturing the talents of military personnel, enabling them to become well-recognized professionals who can enjoy a hassle-free life with a sound economic foundation in society.

Further, he highlighted that several major initiatives have already been taken to achieve these aspirations, including increased engagement in UN Peace Keeping Operations, the ‘Warriorpreneurship’ program designed to transform retired and retiring military veterans into entrepreneurs, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to secure merchant navy certification for retired and retiring naval personnel.

Furthermore, he noted that securing approval to deliver relief and compensation to war veterans, including those killed, reported missing, or disabled in action, along with their dependents, represents a major achievement. It simultaneously resolves protracted issues caused by overlapping circulars and regulations.
