Jaffna: The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), conducted a field inspection visit to several key locations in the Jaffna Peninsula on Tuesday, 26 May. Accompanying him were the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekar, the District Secretary of Jaffna, and other relevant government officials.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, the Deputy Minister’s visit focused on addressing ongoing concerns related to national security and public welfare. He assessed the security framework of the area and engaged in discussions on efforts to combat drug trafficking and other illegal activities, including illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The Deputy Minister also concentrated on civilian land matters, examining the processes and current status of releasing state-held lands to rightful owners to facilitate community resettlement. The visit saw the involvement of the Commander of the Army, Commander Security Forces Headquarte
