Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam on Friday announced a seven-day special ‘crash programme’ in Kamrangirchar aimed at controlling dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, along with ensuring effective waste management.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the announcement was made during an address to worshippers after Friday prayers at a mosque near the Kamrangirchar Eidgah field. The DSCC administrator emphasized that the programme will focus on daily mosquito-control activities to curb the spread of diseases. He highlighted the importance of community involvement, urging citizens to prevent stagnant water accumulation in their homes, yards, and drains, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Salam also discussed the ongoing Inner Circular Road project, which aims to expand the Kamrangirchar road to eight lanes. He noted that the project, once completed, will enhance communication and significantly transform the area’s landscape. He further called for concerted efforts to protect the Adi Buriganga Channel, urging residents not to dispose of waste and polythene in the river and to actively prevent its encroachment.

In addition to addressing health and infrastructure issues, Salam encouraged the community to build social resistance against drugs, extortion, and land grabbing. He stressed the importance of keeping public spaces, such as roads, drains, and playgrounds, free from encroachment and maintained in a clean state. He also assured the community of addressing complications related to the registration of the mosque through discussions with relevant authorities.

The DSCC administrator concluded by advocating for environmental conservation, urging everyone to plant at least one tree to contribute to a cleaner and greener Kamrangirchar. He emphasized that collective efforts are crucial to creating a liveable environment in the area.

Following his speech, Salam toured various parts of Kamrangirchar and participated in the nationwide tree-planting initiative aimed at planting 250 million trees. He planted trees at the Buriganga Public Library premises and along the bank of the Buriganga River, with Dhaka-7 lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Hamid and other local leaders in attendance.
