Dhaka: Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) staged a protest march on Monday, demanding the cancellation of a reported decision to withdraw the power of the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) to recommend teachers for appointment and hand the authority back to school and college managing committees.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the protest march began around 8pm from in front of the Dhaka University Central Library. The protesters marched through the residential hall area before holding a brief rally in front of the DUCSU building.

Addressing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, DUCSU Vice President Shadik Kayem expressed concerns about the decision, questioning whether it was made independently or with advice from Chhatra Dal affiliates. He urged the prime minister to withdraw the decision and offer an apology to the country’s students, warning of potential political consequences.

DUCSU Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah criticized the government’s actions, alleging attempts to destabilize the education system by replacing the NTRCA with politically influenced managing committees. He condemned the move as a means to favor party-affiliated individuals in educational institutions and urged the government to reconsider the decision. Abdullah also warned of a strong response from the student community if the government fails to address their concerns.
