Ex-Husband Arrested for Burning Woman to Death in Dinajpur

Biral: Police arrested a man for burning his ex-wife to death by pouring petrol on her at Bijora Sutarpara in Biral upazila of Dinajpur district on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akter Shyamoli, 25, daughter of Sirajul Islam of the village.

According to United News of Bangladesh, police arrested Mahbubur Rahman, son of Shafi Uddin of Sadar upazila in Rangpur district. Abdul Halim, additional superintendent of Sadar (circle) Police Station, stated that Mahbubur and Shyamoli married four years ago and were parents to two children.

The couple divorced two years ago, and Shyamoli had been living with her father since then. On Saturday, Mahbubur reportedly entered Shyamoli’s house, which led to a heated argument over a family feud.

During the confrontation, Mahbubur allegedly stabbed Shyamoli with a sharp weapon and proceeded to set her on fire by pouring petrol around 10 pm. Shyamoli was subsequently taken to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital but succumbed to her injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

Police later apprehended Mahbubur from the upazila, following the tragic incident.
