Four Arrested in Connection with Kamrangirchar Robbery

Dhaka: Police in a drive arrested four people, including a housewife, in connection with a robbery at a house in Kamrangirchar area of the capital early Wednesday. The arrestees were identified as Jiasmin alias Jesmin, 37, Sajib Alam, 29, Ripon Mia, 42, and Faruk Khan, 50.

According to United News of Bangladesh, police reported that five robbers entered a flat on the fifth floor of a 10-storey building near Roxy Lane in Mahdinagar around 7:30 pm on July 18, pretending to inspect it for rent. They tied up the residents and looted Tk 20 lakh in cash, three tolas of gold ornaments, and four mobile phone sets before fleeing.

After receiving information, police visited the scene and launched an investigation. They identified the suspects through CCTV footage. A police team conducted a raid in the Muslimbagh area of Kamrangirchar around 12:10 am on Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of Sajib, as stated by DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehedi.

Following Sajib’s interrogation, police arrested Ripon in the same area and recovered Tk 1 lakh from him. The team then conducted a raid in the Chand Mosque area, arresting Faruk with Tk 1 lakh and gold ornaments. Further investigation revealed that Jesmin, residing on the seventh floor of the same building where the robbery occurred, was the mastermind.

Jesmin was subsequently arrested from the building, and Tk 20,000 was recovered from her. Police noted that she was a regular visitor to the victims’ flat and was aware of the large amount of cash kept there. It is alleged that she planned the robbery with known associates, facilitated the robbers’ entry, and ensured their safe exit.

Police disclosed that eight people were involved in the robbery and efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, according to Niaz Mehedi.
