Gang Rape of Two Girls in Keraniganj: Six Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Dhaka: A tribunal in Dhaka has sentenced six individuals to imprisonment until death for their involvement in the gang rape of two young girls in South Keraniganj in 2022. The verdict was delivered by Judge Munshi Md Mashier Rahman of the Dhaka Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Court-4.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the court also imposed a fine of Tk one lakh on each of the convicts. The individuals convicted in the case are Rahul, Md Daimon, Afsar Uddin Anim, Pervez Haque Palash, Minhaz alias Minhaz Abedin, and Minhaz alias Babu alias Minhaz Babu. An arrest warrant has been issued for Rahul, who has been on the run since the trial began.

The tribunal directed the Dhaka District Magistrate to ensure that the fine money is provided to the victims’ families by selling the convicts’ properties. The prosecution revealed that the incident occurred on June 25, 2022, when the two victims, along with friends, were at Pankouri restaurant in Keraniganj celebrating a birthday. While waiting for transport in the Shubaddya area, the girls were abducted by the convicts, who were in an auto-rickshaw, and taken to a nearby fish farm owned by an individual named Ratan.

The convicts not only violated the girls but also stole money and mobile phones from them and their friends, capturing video footage of the crime. Following the incident, the friends of the victims reported the crime to South Keraniganj Police Station, leading to the rescue of the girls. Subsequently, a case was filed on June 29, 2022, and charges were brought against the six individuals.
