Dhaka: Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin on Sunday emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring safe, orderly, and dignified migration, labeling it as a pivotal element of the 21st century. He made these remarks at the inauguration of the National Action Plan (2026-2030) held at a hotel in the capital.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Mahdi Amin highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to empower people and streamline the migration process under the guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He acknowledged Bangladesh’s rich history in the migration sector, noting that employment opportunities abroad were initiated under the leadership of Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman, and later expanded by former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia through the establishment of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Mahdi Amin praised the government’s swift action in approving the National Action Plan shortly after taking office, underscoring their commitment to this cause. He also expressed gratitude to Bangladesh’s international partners, recognizing the inevitable and enriching nature of migration for societies worldwide.

He further acknowledged the significant contributions of Bangladeshi migrant workers to both their host countries’ economies and Bangladesh’s economy, primarily through remittances. The government, Mahdi Amin mentioned, is focusing on developing a skilled workforce by providing language training, cultural orientation, and technical skills to prospective migrant workers before their departure.

“Our aim,” he stated, “is to establish an effective ecosystem over the next five years, facilitating more skilled Bangladeshi workers to access overseas employment through an orderly and fair migration process.”

The event was attended by ministers, state ministers, secretaries, senior government officials, and diplomats from both home and abroad.
