Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing a police force devoid of political influence, aiming to transform it into a symbol of public security and a true ally of the people. Addressing the graduation parade of the 27th BCS (Police) batch’s first phase at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, the home minister outlined the government’s vision for a modern, professional, and people-oriented police force.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister highlighted the government’s efforts to restore police morale, which had been weakened under the previous ‘fascist government’ due to excessive politicization. He announced the introduction of a strict system of rewards for professionalism and disciplinary actions for misconduct to reinforce integrity and discipline within the force.
While congratulating the newly appointed officers, Minister Ahmed acknowledged the hardships they endured over the past 18 years under the previous authoritarian regime, expressing that their recognition and rightful positions were long overdue. He urged the officers to uphold equality before the law, ensuring that no one seeking police services faces discrimination.
The minister further stressed the importance of discipline, loyalty, and teamwork within the force, encouraging officers to enhance their expertise in cyber security and criminal investigation to tackle emerging challenges. He reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption and called on all police members to perform their duties with honesty and dedication.
The graduation parade saw 58 probationary ASPs, including 57 from the 27th BCS (Police) batch and one from the 28th batch, officially entering service. During the ceremony, Probationary ASP Dr Md Nurul Huda Bhuiyan received accolades as Best in Field Activities and Best Probationer, while ABM Mamun and Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam were honored with the Best Shooter and Best Academic awards, respectively.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, local Members of Parliament, Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, and other senior officials. The ceremony also attracted senior military and civilian officials, local and foreign guests, guardians of the ASP probationers, and journalists from various media outlets.
