Dhaka: The government of Bangladesh has introduced an electronic bail bond management system in eight districts, aiming to streamline the bail bond submission process. Law Adviser Asif Nazrul inaugurated the initiative virtually from the Secretariat.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the new system has been rolled out in Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalakathi, and Sherpur, following a successful pilot project in Narayanganj. The pilot program, launched on October 15 of the previous year, reportedly achieved complete success, prompting the government to expand the system.
Adviser Nazrul highlighted that the e-bail bond system is designed to save time and costs for all parties involved, including litigants, lawyers, and prison authorities. Previously, obtaining bail involved multiple steps even after approval, causing delays and additional expenses for litigants. The new system aims to enhance transparency and accountability by identifying and eliminating delays in the process.
Dr. Nazrul also shared plans for extending the e-bail bond system to all 64 districts nationwide. He expressed optimism that the system could be operational across the entire country within six months. Addressing concerns about the continuity of the initiative under future governments, the adviser expressed confidence that the system would persist, given its non-political nature.
