Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Thursday highlighted the need for coordinated efforts among the government, media, and relevant stakeholders to effectively tackle misinformation and disinformation.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the discussion took place during a courtesy call by Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative-designate to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Irene Zubaida Khan, at the Minister’s Secretariat office. They underscored the importance of projecting a positive image of Bangladesh globally and accurately presenting the country’s achievements and stance on international platforms.

The meeting also stressed the significance of highlighting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s achievements and various programmes in the international media, particularly during his upcoming participation in the United Nations General Assembly. A media release revealed that several aspects of media management for the Prime Minister’s visit were discussed, focusing on projecting Bangladesh’s positions and priorities in international media and enhancing the country’s global image.

Both parties identified the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation on social media and digital platforms as a significant challenge. They deliberated on adopting effective communication strategies to counter such propaganda, ensure the swift dissemination of accurate information, and bolster Bangladesh’s digital platform presence.

The Information Minister briefed Ambassador Khan on the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to address these challenges. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting were also present at the meeting, affirming the Ministry’s commitment to providing necessary support in this regard.
