Colombo: The low-level atmospheric disturbance located to the east of Sri Lanka continues to affect the island’s weather patterns. Showery conditions are expected to intensify over the Northern, Eastern, and Uva Provinces in the coming days starting from January 5th.
According to News.LK, showers will be frequent in the Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Matale, and Nuwara-Eliya districts. The Northern Province, along with Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts, will also experience several spells of showers.
Further, showers or thundershowers may occur at scattered locations in other regions of the island after 2:00 p.m. Strong winds reaching up to 50 kmph are anticipated over the Eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Eastern provinces, and in the Hambantota, Gampaha, Colombo, and Monaragala districts.
The general public is urged to take appropriate precautions to mitigate the risks posed by localized strong winds and light
ning during thundershowers.
