Dhaka: The 42nd death anniversary of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, former chief of the Bangladesh Navy and former minister for communications and agriculture, will be observed on Thursday with a series of commemorative events. Elaborate programmes have been planned to honour his memory both domestically and internationally.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the day’s observance will commence with the laying of floral wreaths at his grave, which is located beside his beloved Naval Headquarters. A Quran Khatam, Khawani, and special prayers are scheduled to be held at the site. Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, who was the father-in-law of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, passed away on August 6, 42 years ago while serving the nation.

The Bangladesh Navy will pay tribute to him in the morning by laying a floral wreath at his grave. Additionally, there will be food distribution among underprivileged communities, and special doa mahfils and prayers will take place after Zohr prayers at naval mosques nationwide, seeking eternal peace for his departed soul.

In the capital, Quran Khatam, Quran Khawani, doa mahfils, and special prayers will be conducted at Mahbub Bhaban. Begum Mahbub Ali Khan has urged all well-wishers to keep the deceased in their prayers. A doa mahfil and special prayers are also scheduled at SUROVI, a charitable organization for underprivileged children established by Begum Mahbub Ali Khan in 1979.

Several madrasahs and orphanages in Dhaka, including Jamia Qurbania Talimia Women’s Madrasah and Orphanage at Bawniabad, Jamia Qurbania Arabia Madrasah and Orphanage at Bhashantek, and Sanmandi Khan Bari Daryl Quran Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage in Sonargaon, will hold Quran Khatam, Quran Khawani, and doa mahfils. Special prayers are also arranged at numerous mosques across Dhaka, including the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

In his birthplace, Sylhet, the anniversary will be observed with doa mahfils, remembrance meetings, Quran Khawani, and food distribution. Similar programmes are planned in Bogura and Jamalpur. Internationally, commemorative events featuring Quran Khatam, doa mahfils, and special prayers will take place in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Singapore, and the Maldives.
