Dhaka: The Teesta River was recorded flowing 13 centimeters above the danger level at the Dalia point of the Teesta Barrage in Nilphamari on Wednesday morning. This rise in water level is attributed to continuous rainfall and upstream hill runoff.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Shunil Kumar, executive engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) in Lalmonirhat, reported that the water level was recorded at 9:00am. The swelling of the river has resulted in water encroaching into low-lying houses and agricultural lands along its banks.

Despite the encroachment, Shunil Kumar mentioned that no major financial losses are anticipated since there are no significant seasonal crops currently in the affected fields. The BWDB has indicated that water levels in rivers across the northern region might continue to rise over the next 48 hours due to persistent heavy rainfall and upstream inflows, which could potentially cause minor flooding in low-lying areas.

In preparation for any flood-related situations, the BWDB assured that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a prompt response.
