Man Fatally Attacked by Brother in Chattogram Over Land Dispute


Dhaka: A man was killed after being struck with a spade allegedly by his younger brother over a land dispute in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram. The incident unfolded on Tuesday, leaving the local community in shock.



According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased, Nejam Uddin, 45, was the son of the late Abdul Hamid of Ashu Talukder Bari in Ghoshkhil village. The accused, Jamal Uddin Sumon, reportedly fled the scene after the altercation, which erupted around 5:00 pm.



Locals revealed that the brothers had been entangled in a prolonged dispute concerning family-owned land. The argument escalated on Tuesday afternoon, culminating in a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Nejam allegedly pushed Sumon, prompting their mother to intervene by handing a spade to Sumon. Sumon then allegedly struck Nejam on the back of the head with the spade.



In the aftermath, local residents quickly came to Nejam’s aid and transported him to the Boalkhali Upazila Health Complex. Unfortunately, the attending doctor declared him dead upon arrival.



Mozaffar Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge of Boalkhali Police Station, stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.
