Dhaka: A memorial arch erected by BNP’s associate wings in Tungipara to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the July uprising was reportedly set on fire on Saturday night, mere hours after its construction.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the ’36 July Mass Uprising Arch’ was established by the Tungipara municipality units of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal. Situated on the southern side of Gate No. 1 of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum, the arch was completed on Saturday afternoon. The two organizations also planned various programs in conjunction with the anniversary.

Local reports suggest that unidentified individuals set fire to the arch after evening. The blaze resulted in partial damage to the lower section of the structure. Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara Police Station, Ayub Ali, confirmed that police officers visited the site following a tip-off about the incident.

Ayub Ali stated, “An investigation is underway to identify those responsible. Further action will be taken following instructions from the higher authorities.”
