National Integrity Initiative Commences at Ministry of Defence

Colombo: The Ministry of Defence marked the commencement of National Integrity Week by administering the National Integrity Pledge, joining the island-wide programme launched under the theme, “A Culture of Integrity – A Clean Sri Lanka,” today (27 Jul). The event, held at the Ministry of Defence premises, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, addressing the gathering, the Deputy Minister of Defence underscored the importance of fostering a culture of integrity across the public service as a cornerstone of good governance and national development. The Defence Secretary also addressed the participants, highlighting the need to uphold the highest standards of honesty, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of official duties.

The programme seeks to strengthen transparency, accountability and ethical governance across the public sector while promoting a public administration that is efficient, service-oriented and free from corruption. The event was also attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, senior officers of the Tri-Forces and ministry staff.
