Bangladesh: Bangladesh Police arrested 39,267 people across the country during a special operation conducted from May 1 to July 27, said a statement issued by police headquarters on Tuesday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the special drive, which was part of a broader law enforcement initiative, resulted in the arrest of an additional 102,722 people in various cases and other operations during the same period. This brings the total number of arrests under the special drive and other cases to 141,989, according to the statement.

During these operations, law enforcement officials recovered a significant arsenal of illegal weapons and ammunition. The police seized 325 firearms, 2,802 rounds of bullets and cartridges, 103 magazines, and 46 homemade explosive devices, commonly known as cocktails. Additionally, they confiscated 2.25 kg of gunpowder, 638 locally made weapons, 18 firearm components, 17 pieces of weapons- and bomb-making equipment, and 10,300 chocolate firecrackers. The array of recovered firearms included pistols, shooter guns, revolvers, and even submachine guns.

In parallel with the crackdown on illegal arms, the police also made substantial drug seizures. They confiscated 9,122,996 yaba tablets, 9,080 packets of heroin, 4,095 bottles of phensedyl, 8,211 bottles of foreign liquor, 423 bottles of locally made liquor, and 8,552 packets of cannabis, among other narcotics. These efforts led to the filing of 17,066 cases related to drug recoveries, with 24,821 individuals arrested in connection to these cases.
