Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has no specific intelligence suggesting any sabotage plot surrounding Wednesday’s observance of July Mass Uprising Day, but has placed the capital under maximum security, Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Md Shafiqul Islam said on Tuesday. According to United News of Bangladesh, the DMP has prepared comprehensive security measures, given the significance of the day and the various events scheduled throughout the city.

“So far, we have no specific information regarding any act of sabotage centring on August 5. However, the DMP has taken all necessary security measures. There are various programmes scheduled across the city, and adequate security will be ensured for all of them,” Shafiqul said. This statement was made during a briefing with reporters at the DMP Media Centre in the afternoon.

In response to inquiries about recent clashes among political parties in the capital, Shafiqul noted that differences of opinion are natural in politics and may sometimes lead to confrontations. “However, such incidents should not be viewed as acts of sabotage,” he emphasized, suggesting that these clashes were not part of a broader threat.

The DB chief also addressed the recent discovery of bomb-like objects in different parts of the country. He mentioned that the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit is actively investigating these incidents, with the Detective Branch conducting a parallel investigation. He acknowledged the potential for attempts to create instability, induce public panic, or depict Bangladesh as a nation associated with militancy, affirming that authorities are treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
