Dhaka: More than 200 illegal residential gas connections were disconnected during a special mobile court drive in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the illegal use of gas through the unauthorised connections caused an estimated loss of around Tk 1.30 crore to the government over the past five years, as reported by Titas Gas officials. The eviction drive was conducted from the afternoon to evening in the Kararchar Madina Jute Mills area, led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate FM Naim Hasan Shuvo. Officials of the Titas Gas Narsingdi office and members of law enforcement agencies were present during the operation.

The mobile court also fined four house owners for illegally using gas. Ahmad Ullah, manager (emergency) of the Titas Gas Narsingdi office, said the drive was conducted based on a tip-off about a large number of illegal gas connections in different houses in the area. After searching several houses, the authorities disconnected more than 200 illegal connections and permanently sealed the lines, he said.
