Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday carried out a firsthand inspection of waste management, drainage, greening, and other civic services across the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), identifying shortcomings on the ground and ordering immediate corrective measures. During the visit, he closely observed the city corporation’s cleanliness activities, tree plantation, greening initiatives, drainage system, and overall urban management, said a press release issued by the PM’s Press Wing.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman identified a number of problems at different locations, expressed dissatisfaction over several issues, and directed the authorities concerned to take prompt and effective steps to address them. He also gave necessary instructions to the officials responsible for improving civic services. Before the inspection, the Prime Minister invited State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam and DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam to his residence around 3:30pm. He later set out to inspect different parts of the city.
Driving the vehicle himself, Tarique Rahman toured ECB Chattar, Mirpur DOHS, Diabari, Uttara Sectors 3, 4, 5 and 6, Airport Road, Kakoli, Mohakhali, Farmgate, Manik Mia Avenue, Asad Gate, Mohammadpur, Salimullah Road, Iqbal Road, Tajmahal Road, Japan Garden City, Shyamoli, Ganabhaban intersection, Zia Udyan, Shewrapara, Kazipara, Mirpur-10, Kachukhet, Cantonment, Sainik Club, and Banani before returning to his Gulshan residence. The inspection focused on assessing waste management, road cleanliness, tree plantation, greening, drainage, and other aspects of urban management as part of the government’s efforts to improve civic services and make Dhaka a cleaner and more liveable city.
According to PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, the Prime Minister left his Gulshan residence at around 4:05pm and personally drove the vehicle throughout the inspection. He said Tarique Rahman spent more than two and a half hours touring the roads before returning to his Gulshan residence around Maghrib prayers. “The Prime Minister has repeatedly said he wants to see Dhaka as a clean city. That is why he personally inspected the situation,” Rony added. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Shahe Alam, Safiqul, BNP Special Secretary Belayet Hossain, Prime Minister’s Private Secretary Mehedul Islam, and Assistant Private Secretary Abdur Rahman Sani.
