Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday emphasized the need for Bangladesh to transition from protest to progress, focusing on rebuilding efforts while addressing the ongoing gas and electricity crisis through both immediate and long-term strategies.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister, speaking at an event commemorating the 2nd anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, urged citizens to stay vigilant against conspiracies that could derail the country’s development. He reassured the public of his government’s dedication to fulfilling the aspirations for which the people have long struggled, highlighting the need for peace, education, healthcare, security, and employment.
During the discussion organized by the BNP at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium, Rahman stressed that the success of the July uprising belonged to the people of Bangladesh, not any individual or political entity. He asserted that the government is committed to implementing plans for national rebuilding, aiming to deliver on promises made to the electorate.
The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of political rights and the need for democratic processes, urging the public to focus on fulfilling their aspirations. He acknowledged the hardships faced by citizens due to the energy crisis, emphasizing the government’s proactive measures to address these issues, including discussions with Myanmar for natural gas imports and negotiations with Malaysia’s Petronas for LNG supplies.
Rahman detailed steps being taken to boost gas supplies and restore electricity generation, citing years of neglect in the energy sector. He criticized the previous government for its mismanagement and corruption, leading to the current challenges. Despite these difficulties, he affirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis with expert advice and informed strategies.
Efforts are underway to procure drilling rigs for BAPEX to enhance domestic exploration, aiming for positive outcomes in the near future. The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s focus on investing in youth to prevent societal issues, emphasizing the importance of education, sports, and cultural activities.
Lastly, Rahman assured support for those affected by the July movement and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the country’s democratic struggles. He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to stabilizing the energy sector and alleviating public suffering through consistent reforms and investment.
