Dhaka: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Monday emphasized the significance of addressing challenges like maintaining “political unity and social stability” in Bangladesh’s governance journey amidst complex circumstances. He highlighted the need to overcome the bottleneck of a single-industry structure and create a favorable external environment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Chinese Ambassador was speaking at a joint training program hosted by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS). The program, titled “2026 Comparative Governance Forum,” took place at the BIISS Auditorium. Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir attended as the chief guest, with the Vice-President of Fudan University, Prof Chen Zhimin, as a special guest.
Ambassador Yao noted that President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s unwavering commitment to friendly relations with Bangladesh, marking the foundation for the next ‘Golden Fifty Years’ of bilateral ties. The ambassador mentioned agreements on projects like the Teesta River management, Mongla Port expansion, and the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor.
Further, Yao highlighted the Bangladesh-China practical cooperation’s evolution towards a more optimized and broader scope. He underscored the importance of governance exchanges in building a Bangladesh-China community with a shared future. Since assuming office, the new Bangladesh government has focused on a development-oriented approach to improve livelihoods.
In June, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s official visit to China resulted in agreements to strengthen governance exchanges and elevate the strategic cooperative partnership. These efforts aim to foster a Bangladesh-China community with shared interests and solidarity.
The forum covers topics such as modernizing national governance systems, global initiatives, and the Global South. The courses emphasize practical application, the spirit of the times, and mutual learning. Ambassador Yao expressed hope that participants would reflect on Chinese modernization, consider Bangladesh’s national conditions, and explore a suitable development path.
He encouraged participants to acquire policy tools for national governance, poverty reduction, and digital governance, contributing to Bangladesh’s development. Ambassador Yao expressed wishes for the forum’s success and emphasized the role of governance exchanges in strengthening China-Bangladesh relations.
