Rangpur: The Rangpur Divisional Women’s Sports Complex has finally begun operations, more than three years after its inauguration. The complex initiated its activities on Thursday afternoon with a three-day divisional skating training camp for schoolgirls.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner, Md Shahidul Islam, inaugurated the training camp. He stated that activities at the women’s sports complex could not be launched earlier due to funding constraints. “After various initiatives, we have finally been able to start its activities. I hope the complex will never have to close again because of a lack of funds,” he remarked.
The divisional commissioner encouraged the trainees to undergo proper training with the aim of making Rangpur a champion in skating. He also highlighted the importance of good health and education, emphasizing that children should grow up to play a leading role in society. Following the inauguration, the girls participated in the skating training, expressing happiness at the opportunity to train at the complex after a long wait.
The National Sports Council initiated the project in 2017 to construct the complex on 10 acres of land in the Uttam area of Rangpur city. The goal was to promote and develop women’s sports across the eight districts of the division. The complex was officially inaugurated on August 2, 2023.
