Dhaka: Social Welfare Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain emphasized the importance of vigilance against any resurgence of authoritarianism in the country, urging citizens to protect their rights. He stated that there would be no opportunity for authoritarian forces to undermine the rights of the people.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Zahid Hossain, who is also a BNP Standing Committee Member, made these remarks during a discussion organized by Jatiyatabadi Technical Engineers Bangladesh (JTEB) at the Diploma Engineers Institution in Kakrail, Dhaka. The event was held to honor the sacrifices of the July Uprising martyrs. State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin and BNP Joint Organising Secretary were present as special guests.
In his address, Zahid Hossain warned of potential attempts by certain groups to create divisions within the unity and aspirations of the people. He reiterated that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is committed to protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of religion, caste, or identity. He highlighted that BNP’s mission is to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people.
The minister expressed his vision of a future Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, envisaging a humane and inclusive country characterized by good governance and devoid of injustice, corruption, or authoritarianism. He emphasized that the sacrifices of past martyrs and forcibly disappeared individuals, such as Sajjad, Selim Talukder, and Engineer Atik, should not be in vain.
Zahid Hossain also referenced the January 7, 2024 election and subsequent movements, which he claimed led to a mass uprising. He stressed the importance of standing by the people and earning their trust to avoid negative consequences.
The event was chaired by JTEB Central Executive Committee President Engineer Md Fakhrul Alam and moderated by General Secretary Engineer ABM Ruhul Amin Akand. Leaders, activists, and family members of the July martyrs attended the gathering to pay homage to the sacrifices made for the nation’s progress.
