RU Teacher Sued in Attempted Rape Case

Rajshahi: An attempted rape case has been filed against Rajshahi University (RU) Assistant Prof. Dulal Ali Mollah. A woman filed the case on January 4 with Chandrima Police Station, said Officer-in-Charge of the police station Emran Hossain.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the case statement indicates that Prof. Dulal, a teacher from the Department of Agronomy and Agriculture Extension, developed a relationship with the woman in 2021. On December 27 of the previous year, the accused allegedly took the woman to a residential hotel named Padma Residential area under Chandrima Police Station, under the guise of his mother’s illness.

The victim claimed that Prof. Dulal attempted to rape her repeatedly when no one was around. The next day, the accused allegedly fled the scene but returned later with three accomplices and a woman whom he identified as his wife. The victim reported being physically and mentally tortured, and when she fell sick, the group left the location.

Dr. Md Mostafizur Rahman, President of the Department of Agronomy and Agriculture Extension, stated that Prof. Dulal has taken a one-month leave due to illness and is currently not attending the department. RU Proctor Mahbubur Rahman mentioned that although the woman informed them of the issue verbally, she did not file any written complaint.
