Riyadh: Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad, recently met with the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, at the MWL office in Riyadh. The meeting focused on strengthening the historic ties between the two nations and enhancing collaborative efforts.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, Dr. Al-Issa extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad, reminiscing about his landmark visit to Sri Lanka in 2019. He reflected on the fruitful engagements with both the Sri Lankan government and civil society organizations during his visit. Dr. Al-Issa emphasized the historic relations with Sri Lanka, which was known as ‘Serandip’ by ancient Arabs and the Islamic World, and expressed a strong interest in furthering cooperation with Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad expressed his appreciation for the support extended by the MWL to Sri Lanka over the years. He praised the organization’s crucial role in promotin
g mutual understanding among different religions and cultures, fostering social coexistence, and maintaining unity in diversity.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa is noted for his efforts as a leading global proponent of moderate Islam. He is committed to spreading the true message of the religion, focusing on empathy, understanding, and cooperation among people worldwide. Dr. Al-Issa has been instrumental in establishing partnerships among various communities, faiths, and nations. He also leads the Intellectual Warfare Center, an affiliate of the Saudi Defense Ministry, aimed at combating extremist and terrorist ideology. In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Al-Issa received the Order of Peace award in 2019 from the then President of Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad was accompanied by Mohamed Anas, Minister and Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh.
