Shibir Holds Mass Gathering in Dhaka to Protest Alleged JCD Campus Attacks

Dhaka: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir organized a mass gathering in the capital to protest alleged attacks by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists on educational institutions. The protestors demanded the full implementation of the July Charter as per the referendum and justice for those killed during the July mass uprising.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the event commenced at 9:00 am at the Central Shaheed Minar, following which participants marched to the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University. The gathering saw participation from former leaders and activists of the student organization.

During the rally, Shafiqul Islam Masud, a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Member of Parliament from Patuakhali-2, criticized the BNP and its student wing. He expressed disappointment that on a day meant to celebrate the country’s “victory,” they were compelled to protest against JCD. Masud urged the BNP leadership to control JCD, warning that the student organization’s activities might adversely impact the party’s political prospects.

Md Nurul Islam Bulbul, MP from Chapainawabganj-3, accused the BNP and JCD of emulating the Awami League and its student wing, the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League. He asserted that Shibir could counter any violence by JCD with the student community’s backing.

Rafiqul Islam Khan, Jamaat MP from Sirajganj-4, also accused JCD of causing unrest on campuses and cautioned against “terror activities” in educational institutions. Shibir President Nurul Islam Saddam alleged that while the BNP gained politically from the July mass uprising, justice for those killed remains unachieved.

Saddam criticized the slow progress in trials related to the uprising, claiming that only a few cases have advanced in the past two years. He accused JCD of trying to establish control in university halls and revive the “gonoroom” and “guestroom” culture on campuses. Saddam warned that Shibir would resist if alleged violence by JCD continued.
