Sri lanka: Sri Lanka Coast Guard personnel actively participated in a number of national dengue prevention programmes to control the spread of dengue across coastal areas in several districts under the directives of the Ministry of Defence.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, these dengue prevention programmes were carried out by Coast Guard personnel attached to the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western Regions, as well as Coast Guard ships and craft. The programmes included identifying and destroying potential mosquito breeding sites, removing and disposing of discarded materials that could collect stagnant water, and cleaning and restoring blocked drainage systems.
