Sri Lanka Highlights Trade and Investment Opportunities at World Trade Expo 2024 in Mumbai.

Mumbai: Sri Lanka actively participated in the World Trade Expo 2024 held in Mumbai, showcasing its diverse trade, investment, and tourism opportunities. The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Industrial Development Board and the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka, organized the Sri Lanka Pavilion at this significant event.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, WTE 2024 was organized by the World Trade Center Mumbai and the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) from 17 to 18 October 2024. The event focused on trade, technology, tourism, and education, drawing participation from over 30 countries, as well as prominent state governments, institutions, and trade bodies. The Expo served as a platform for facilitating bilateral trade, investment, and education opportunities.

Representatives from four Sri Lankan companies specializing in Ceylon spices, coconut products, cocoa products, dehydrated fruits, and Ceylon tea participated in the Sri Lankan Pavilio
n. The Expo also provided an opportunity for MSMEs, women entrepreneurs, start-ups, and other stakeholders to explore potential collaborations, partnerships, and technology transfers.

Inaugurating the event was the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, who also inaugurated the Sri Lankan pavilion. On the second day, a series of country presentations included insights into various trade and investment landscapes. Shirani Ariyarathne, Acting Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, delivered a presentation on Sri Lanka’s trade, tourism, and investment opportunities. Participants introduced new value-added cinnamon, coconut, and cocoa products, as well as dehydrated fruits and nuts to the Indian market.

The Expo concluded with a networking dinner, facilitating valuable connections and discussions for future collaboration. Sri Lankan companies were able to establish productive connections, paving the way for new business opportunities.
