YANGON: Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Prabashini Ponnamperuma, met with the Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Soe Thein, and Mayor and Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee, U Bo Htay, on 30 October 2024 in Yangon, Myanmar. The focus of the discussions was primarily on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in trade, economic, and investment sectors.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, the meetings underscored the necessity for expanding the long-standing and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and Myanmar, particularly in investment and trade. The discussions also took into account the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The Chief Minister emphasized the significant investment potential within the Yangon region and extended an invitation to Sri Lankan investors to explore opportunities under the regional government’s facilitation.
Additionally, the talks included discussions on promoting religious tourism, with a focus on significa
nt places of worship in both countries. Several ministers from the Yangon Region Government Office participated in the meeting, including Minister for Border Affairs, Colonel Win Tint; Minister for Economy, U Myo Myint Aung; and Minister for Natural Resources, U Zaw Win, among others.
