Dar es Salaam: The Sri Lankan community in Tanzania gathered to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 6, 2025. The event was organized by Hiran Sumanaweera, the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Tanzania, with assistance from Sri Lankans living in the country.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, over 80 members of the Sri Lankan community took part in the celebration. The event featured traditional New Year games and a friendly cricket tournament, offering a sense of home to those in East Africa.

The celebration was supported by several Sri Lankan businesses operating in Tanzania, including Afro Gems Group, APS Tanzania, CHAKRAY, Ceylex, LOLC, ASP Auto Care, and DSI Tyres, whose sponsorship made the event possible.
