Sri Lanka’s New Cabinet to be Sworn in Amidst Political Shift.

COLOMBO: The Cabinet Ministers of the new government will be sworn in before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at 10.00 a.m. tomorrow at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

According to Lanka puvath, the senior spokesman of the National People’s Power (NPP), Tilvin Silva, previously announced that the new Cabinet would be restricted to 25 ministers or fewer. He also indicated that a scientific method would be employed in the allocation of subjects for the ministries. Despite the imminent swearing-in, the inaugural session of the Tenth Parliament, composed of members elected through the 2024 General Election held on November 14, is set to commence on November 21, as detailed in the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2403/13 dated September 24, 2024, issued by the President.

The recent elections marked a significant political shift, with the NPP securing a resounding victory by winning a two-thirds majority in Parliament. The party achieved a record-breakin
g total of 159 seats, underscoring a new era in Sri Lankan politics. The developments come amid anticipation of how the new government’s strategies and Cabinet formation will unfold as they prepare to take office.
