Sri Lankan Embassy Shines at Women’s International Club’s 55th Annual Bazaar in Jakarta.

JAKARTA: The Embassy of Sri Lanka recently participated in the 55th Annual Charity Bazaar organized by the Women’s International Club in Jakarta. The event unfolded at the Jakarta Convention Centre on 13 and 14 November 2024, aiming to support various orphanages and elderly care centers across Indonesia. Additionally, the bazaar sought to provide scholarships to children, enabling them to pursue their education without hindrance.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan stall captivated a multitude of visitors with an exotic array of Ceylon tea, cinnamon, and apparel that echoed Sri Lanka’s rich cultural symbols, including decorated elephants, moonstone, and punkalasa. The event saw participation from 42 embassies based in Indonesia, alongside numerous business vendors.

During the bazaar’s opening ceremony, Selvi Gibran Rakabuming, the Second Lady of Indonesia and spouse of Vice President Gibran, visited the Sri Lankan stall. She extended her congratulations to the Embassy staff
and business representatives for their significant contributions to the two-day event. In recognition of her visit, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia, Admiral (Prof.) Jayanath Colombage, presented her with a gold-plated mini tea set, emphasizing the distinctiveness of Ceylon tea. The stall also drew attention from other dignitaries, including the spouses of Indonesian ministers, ambassadors from various countries, and their spouses.

The Sri Lankan Embassy took the opportunity to promote Dilmah Tea in several ways, notably serving it to VIP guests during the opening ceremony. Additionally, the stall highlighted authentic Ceylon cinnamon, educating visitors about the value of this genuine spice.
