Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam emphasized the need for a strengthened partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to promote climate resilience, with a particular focus on women and children.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Alberto Bocanegra, the Head of Delegation of the IFRC to Bangladesh, made a farewell visit to the State Minister at her office to discuss these important issues. During their meeting, Bocanegra provided an overview of the IFRC’s significant humanitarian efforts and achievements in Bangladesh. He highlighted the organization’s contributions in areas such as disaster preparedness, climate resilience, health services, and support for displaced communities.

Bocanegra expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support and positive collaboration offered by the Government of Bangladesh during his tenure. Shama Obaed praised Bocanegra for his effective leadership of the IFRC in Bangladesh and acknowledged the organization’s longstanding partnership with the country since the Liberation War. She lauded the IFRC’s vital role in emergency response and humanitarian aid, particularly during natural disasters like floods and cyclones, as well as their support for the Rohingya humanitarian crisis.

The State Minister extended her best wishes to Bocanegra for his future endeavors and expressed optimism that the Bangladesh-IFRC partnership would continue to flourish under the guidance of his successor.
