Tarique Rahman Launches BNP Election Campaign from Sylhet

Sylhet: BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman arrived in Sylhet on Wednesday night to formally kick off his party’s election campaign for the 13th national parliamentary election, with plans to address seven rallies on Thursday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Tarique, along with his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and arrived at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. His campaign is set to commence in Sylhet, where he will address public rallies across six districts to outline the party’s election pledges and political priorities.

Party leaders have arranged for smooth execution of the rallies, and Tarique is expected to visit his father-in-law’s residence, ‘Minister Bari’, in Biraimpur village. He is also anticipated to visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA) and offer fateha at family graves in Sylhet.

Earlier, BNP Election Steering Committee spokesperson Dr. Mahdi Amin announced that the formal launch of the election campaign would begin with this visit. Tarique’s first rally is set for Sylhet Alia Madrasa ground, followed by several others in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, and Narayanganj.

The BNP maintains a tradition of starting campaigns in Sylhet, as initiated by party founder Ziaur Rahman and followed by Begum Khaleda Zia. Tarique Rahman last visited Sylhet in 2005 and returned to Bangladesh after 17 years in the UK last December.
