Bangkok: The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand recently facilitated a visit by a 21-member production team from Thai AirAsia, including renowned Thai YouTubers Kongkapan Sangsuriya and Saksit Tangthong, to Sri Lanka. This initiative aims to promote Buddhist pilgrimage tourism by highlighting the deep historical and religious connections between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, the program, broadcast on the Thai Channel, Channel 7 HD TV, and YouTube channels, reached a wide audience in Thailand. It educated viewers on the shared Buddhist ties between the two countries, which is expected to strengthen religious tourism and attract more Thai visitors to Sri Lanka’s revered Buddhist sites.
During their visit, the team explored several iconic religious and cultural landmarks in Sri Lanka, including the Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanwelisaya, Mihinthale, Dambulla Cave Temple, Alu Viharaya in Matale, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihar
aya, and Dipaduttamarama Raja Maha Viharaya.
The initiative not only emphasizes the importance of religious tourism but also helps forge deeper connections between the peoples of Thailand and Sri Lanka through their shared Buddhist heritage.
