Beijing: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, together with members of the Sri Lankan community, including students, celebrated the Deepavali festival in Beijing.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka, a special Deepavali message from the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security, and Mass Media, Vijitha Herath, was read at the event. This message extended wishes for Deepavali, highlighting the Hindu community’s celebration of the auspicious event. It commemorates the day when Thiru, with the help of Thirumal, defeated Narakasuran, marking the victory of righteousness over wickedness and wisdom over ignorance.
The event was marked by a welcoming address from the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Majintha Jayesinghe. He emphasized that Deepavali, a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, holds not only religious significance but also conveys a universal message that everyone can embrace.
