Dhaka: Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC announced on Friday that gas supply across all its supply areas will remain under low pressure for 24 hours due to reduced LNG supply. The state-run company informed that low gas pressure will affect Dhaka and all Titas-affiliated areas from 12:00pm on Saturday to 12:00pm on Sunday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the disruption is a result of a temporary reduction in gas received from LNG sources due to maintenance work at an LNG terminal. Titas has extended apologies to consumers for the temporary inconvenience caused by this situation.
Titas distributes LNG-based gas from the Maheshkhali LNG terminals in Cox’s Bazar, alongside gas supplied from local gas fields. Although there are two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) at Maheshkhali, Titas did not specify which terminal is undergoing maintenance.
The gas supply company caters to most districts in the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions. Consequently, consumers in these areas are expected to face disruptions during the 24-hour low-pressure period.
In addition, gas consumers have been dealing with severe supply constraints for several months due to pipeline leakages, valve failures, and maintenance-related issues. The shortage of LPG cylinders in the market has compelled many city residents to resort to using electric cookers or firewood for daily cooking.
