UN Delegation Discusses Cyclone Resettlement and El Nino Preparedness with Presidential Chief of Staff


Colombo: A meeting between UN Resident Coordinator Marc-Andr© Franche and Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi was held this morning at the Presidential Secretariat. The discussion focused on the Government’s programme to resettle individuals displaced by Cyclone Ditwah.



According to News.LK, the talks also covered the Government’s strategies for addressing potential disasters that could arise due to El Nino conditions. The Chief of Staff briefed the UN Resident Coordinator on the Government’s preparedness and future plans to tackle these challenges.



Mr. Franche stated that the United Nations was ready to offer necessary assistance to the Government to ensure the successful implementation of these programmes. Partnerships and Development Finance Specialist at the United Nations, Azam Bakeer Markar, and UN Sri Lanka Humanitarian and Resilience Officer, Wagisha Perera, also participated in the discussions.
