Rangpur: Rapid Action Battalion -13 members have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of rickshaw garage owner Abdur Rahman in Rangpur city. The elite force claims the murder was a planned act stemming from long-standing disputes over marriage, divorce, and financial transactions. The arrests were made during raids conducted within 24 hours of the incident.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrestees were identified as Dulal Mia, 45, of Mahiganj, Firoza Begum, 55, of Lalmonirhat, and Rezaul Islam, 55. Biplob Kumar Goswami, Additional SP, Senior Assistant Director of RAB-13, stated that the suspects provided significant information regarding the murder plot during initial interrogation.

RAB officials revealed that Dulal Mia, who used to rent rickshaws from the victim, had mediated a marriage between Rahman and Firoza five to six months ago after Rahman’s first wife left him. Dulal reportedly took financial benefits for this mediation, while Firoza was promised two auto-rickshaws.

However, the marriage collapsed within a week due to allegations of physical and mental abuse, leading to a divorce mediated by Dulal seven days before the murder. Although Rahman paid Tk 1 lakh as a divorce settlement to Firoza, Dulal allegedly kept Tk 50,000 for himself.

The situation escalated when Dulal demanded additional money from Firoza. Firoza reportedly told Dulal that if she could secure two rickshaws from Rahman, she would give him one. However, they were yet to receive any vehicles from Rahman. Subsequently, Dulal and Firoza, in collaboration with Rezaul Islam, planned the murder to resolve their financial and personal grievances, RAB added.
