Navy Installs Medical Grade Reverse Osmosis Plant at National Hospital ICU


Colombo: A medical grade Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant was installed at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital in Colombo as a part of the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) project. This initiative, aimed at enhancing medical facilities, was officially inaugurated on January 29, 2025. The Ministry of Health spearheaded the project, with financial support from Sanken Overseas (Pvt) Ltd.

According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, this installation marks the 30th medical-grade RO plant constructed under the NSR project. The facility is designed to provide high-purity water essential for hemodialysis treatment. It currently serves six kidney patients simultaneously, with the capability to expand its capacity to treat up to ten patients when required.

The event commemorating the handing over of the RO plant saw participation from all stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success. The newly installed RO plant is a significant addition to the National Hospital, enhancing its capacity to del
iver critical healthcare services.
