Colombo: The Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, met with Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office today. This meeting marked Rear Admiral Joseph’s first official encounter with the Deputy Minister.
According to Ministry of Defence – Sri Lanka, during the discussion, the SLCG Director General provided an overview of the current roles and responsibilities of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. The briefing emphasized the importance of coordination with other law enforcement bodies to ensure maritime safety and security.
The dialogue also included plans for awareness programmes designed to improve lifesaving skills among schoolchildren and youth. These initiatives aim to boost public understanding of maritime safety and emergency response.
Furthermore, there was a proposal to enhance defence cooperation among stakeholders, aiming to strengthen collaborative efforts in tackling emerging security challenges.
